CAMDEN, N.J. – Three members of the Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team have been honored as members of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's Academic All-Conference Team.
Anthony Gendin
Junior
Jason Lin (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) captured the GNAC Academic honors for the second straight season. He was joined on the GNAC Academic Team by a pair of first-year Scarlet Raptor lettermen in juniors
David Celeste (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) and
Anthony Gendin (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional).
Lin, a Biology major, has earned all-conference academic honors during each of his three seasons on the Scarlet Raptors. He was recognized as a North Eastern Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete during his freshman season, the last year that Rutgers-Camden was a NEAC member before joining the GNAC. The past two seasons he has captured GNAC Academic All-Conference honors.
Jason Lin
Gendin and Celeste both joined the men's tennis program this year and also exceeded the minimum 3.25 GPA needed to qualify for the GNAC Academic Team. Gendin is a Business major, while Celeste is an Animation major.
Overall, the GNAC placed 867 student-athletes on its all-conference academic team. Rutgers-Camden is only a GNAC member in the sport of men's tennis.
The GNAC honor was the latest in a long line of accomplishments this season for Lin, the Scarlet Raptors' team captain. Last week he was selected as a member of the 2016
Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Tennis Team, a squad selected by sports information offices from all 30 area institutions around the Philadelphia metropolitan area, no matter which NCAA division they are affiliated with. He was the first Rutgers-Camden men's tennis player to ever earn a berth on the
Inquirer team.
Lin was honored with Rutgers-Camden's prestigious Wilbur W. Wilson Scholar-Athlete Award at the school's annual athletic awards banquet in May. Although a junior academically, he has completed his career at Rutgers-Camden and will now continue his education at Rowan University. He is part of a joint/dual agreement between Rutgers and Rowan where he will obtain his BA and DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) degree in seven years.

Among his other honors this season, Lin was named to the GNAC All-Tournament Team, captured a berth on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team and was named to the inaugural Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director's Honor Roll during the 2015 fall semester. He posted a 7-6 singles record, including a 7-4 mark at fifth singles, went 3-10 teaming at first doubles and was honored as the Raptors' Most Valuable Player.
Lin was his class valedictorian at William Floyd High School, where he also earned three tennis letters.
In his first year with the Rutgers-Camden tennis program, Gendin played first singles, posting an overall 3-9 record, including a 2-1 mark in GNAC competition. He earned All-GNAC Second Team Singles recognition.
Gendin also posted a 5-7 record in doubles, including a 2-1 GNAC mark. He went 5-6 at second doubles and 0-1 at third doubles.
A three-year tennis letterman at Eastern Regional High School, he was the team's MVP as a senior.
Celeste, a former tennis letterman at Phillipsburg High School, joined the Scarlet Raptors' tennis team late in the spring season and saw action in one match. He went 0-1 at sixth singles against Berkeley College on April 20, losing by a 4-6, 3-6 score.
The academic trio helped Rutgers-Camden qualify for the conference semifinals for the first time in its brief history in the GNAC. Celeste, Gendin and Lin also helped the Rutgers-Camden program earn the GNAC Institutional Sportsmanship Award.
