MAHWAH, N.J. (Sept. 24, 2016) – Freshman
Annalise Kipp (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and
Danielle Lemma (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) notched victories at the first two singles spots, but the Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision here Saturday against New Jersey Athletic Conference rival Ramapo College.
The result marked the first time this season the Scarlet Raptors have posted more than one victory in a match. Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference, while Ramapo improves to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC.
The victories for Kipp at first singles (6-1, 6-2) and Lemma at second singles (6-4, 7-6) marked the second collegiate singles wins for both players. They are both 2-2 in singles play during their first season.
Sophomore
Ashley Flores (Camden, NJ/Moorestown Friends) dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at third singles, while senior
Millie Kipp (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) fell 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles. Freshman
Trinh Nguyen (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) lost a 6-0, 6-3 decision at fifth singles and sophomore
Bryana Foxx-Parham (Richmond, VA/Armstrong) lost a 6-1, 6-0 match at sixth singles.
Ramapo won all three doubles matches, posting an 8-3 win over
Annalise Kipp and Lemma at first doubles and sweeping the last two doubles matches, 8-0, over Flores and
Millie Kipp, and Nguyen and Foxx-Parham, respectively.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action next weekend, when it will play a pair of road matches. On Saturday, Oct. 1, the Raptors travel to Williamsport, Pennsylvania for an 11 a.m. match against Lycoming College. On Sunday, Oct. 2, Rutgers-Camden visits William Paterson University for a 1 p.m. NJAC match.
