ANNVILLE, Penn. (Nov. 18, 2017) – During their long and glorious history in ECAC tournament play, the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team has won numerous games in all different ways.
The Scarlet Raptors found a new way to earn an ECAC victory here Saturday as they posted a 3-2 win over New York University in a game that was called at the 70:24 mark due to pouring rain and unplayable field conditions at host Lebanon Valley College. The victory in the ECAC semifinal game lifts the Scarlet Raptors into the ECAC Div. III Men's Soccer Championship title game.
Rutgers-Camden will face host Lebanon Valley in the championship game Sunday, with the start time moved back from its original 12 p.m. schedule to 2 p.m. to allow for field maintenance.
Lebanon Valley College (14-5-1) defeated Grove City College, also by a 3-2 score, in the first semifinal game of the day. The Dutchmen are the defending ECAC champions, having edged Drew University, 2-1, in last year's title game.
Rutgers-Camden's abbreviated victory was the first short win for the Scarlet Raptors in their nine post-season ECAC appearances. The Scarlet Raptors are 15-4 overall in ECAC tournament play and have won the title four times, coming in 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2014.
All the scoring action of the first half was combined in a brief span of 1:31, as the two clubs combined for three goals.
Rutgers-Camden scored the game's first goal at 19:44 as junior midfielder
Vincenzo Masitti (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) picked up a loose ball in the box and finished his sixth goal of the season. Masitti continued his monster performance in the ECAC tournament, giving him at least one point in all three Raptor games. He had an assist in the tourney-opening 2-1 win over SUNY-Maritime on Nov. 11 and scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Arcadia University the next day, which advanced the Scarlet Raptors to Saturday's semifinal against NYU.
It didn't take the Violets long to even the score. Only 1:01 later, senior forward
Nic Notaro (Washington, D.C./St. Alban's School) tallied his second goal of the season with a shot into the lower left-hand corner.
It took the Raptors even less time to answer. Only 29 seconds later, at 21:15, senior midfielder/forward
Brad Maine (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) sent a cross which deflected off a defender and into the net for his third goal of the season.
The Scarlet Raptors made it a 3-1 game at 65:22 on a goal by senior midfielder
Clayton Taylor (Mendham, NJ/West Morris-Mendham). His seventh goal of the season was assisted by Maine,

Jake Velvel (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Day School). A little over a minute later, the game was called due to the playing conditions.
NYU finished with a 13-8 advantage in shots, although Camden held a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. NYU also had a 5-1 lead in corner kicks.
Raptor junior goalie
James Brett (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) collected four saves as he posted his 32nd career victory. NYU junior keeper
Grant Engel (New York, NY/The Birch Wathen Lenox School) also made four saves.
