Anthony Gendin (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) has been named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
The Scarlet Raptors' captain won both of his matches Saturday against John Jay College of Criminal Justice as Rutgers-Camden evened its record at 1-1. He posted a 6-4, 7-5 victory at first singles and teamed with senior
Ryan Christopher (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) for an 8-2 win at second doubles.
Gendin owns a 1-1 record at first singles this year, while posting a 2-0 mark with Christopher at second doubles. A GNAC Second Team player last year in his first season with the Scarlet Raptors, Gendin also earned GNAC Scholar Athlete recognition and was part of the Rutgers-Camden team that earned the GNAC Institutional Sportsmanship Award.
Gendin was the Scarlet Raptors' No. 1 singles player last year, posting a 3-9 record at the top spot. He also combined with Christopher to post a 5-7 doubles record (5-6 at second doubles, 0-1 at third doubles). In his brief time with the Scarlet Raptors, Gendin has combined with Christopher for seven doubles wins, tied for ninth on the program's career list for most wins by doubles partners.
A three-year letterman and former team MVP at Eastern Regional High School, Gendin is a Business major at Rutgers-Camden.
The Scarlet Raptors are scheduled to play an 11 a.m. match at Drew University on Saturday.
