CAMDEN, N.J. (April 13, 2017) – There were plenty of hits for both teams in the New Jersey Athletic Conference softball doubleheader between Rutgers University-Camden and Stockton University here Thursday.
 
Unfortunately for the Scarlet Raptors, Stockton scored the majority of the runs as the Ospreys swept the twinbill, 7-3 and 12-4, to even their record at 4-4 in conference play. The Ospreys improve to 14-12 overall.
 
Rutgers-Camden, which collected 27 hits out of the 55 total in the doubleheader, falls to 11-15 overall and 3-5 in NJAC play.
 
The big stick for the Ospreys was senior rightfielder Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury), who slugged a home run in each game and combined to go 4-for-7 with five runs and eight RBIs in the doubleheader. Stockton sophomore centerfielder Carli Shaw (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown), meanwhile, went 6-for-10 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot.
 
Rutgers-Camden junior leftfielder Gabrielle Castellini (Millville, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) went 6-for08 with three doubles, one run and two RBIs in the twinbill, while freshman designated player Ashley Croge (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) went 5-for-7 with two RBIs.
 
The Scarlet Raptors also received four hits from both sophomore rightfielder Allie Jenkins (Delanco, NJ/Riverside) and junior shortstop Mariah Hans (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights), while both junior catcher Mackenzie Mason (Penns Grove, NJ/Penns Grove) and senior second baseman Jalene Garcia (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) had two hits apiece.
 
The Scarlet Raptors will play a 1 p.m. NJAC doubleheader at Rutgers-Newark Saturday.
   
The Ospreys scored a pair of third-inning runs on a double by Arentowicz to take the lead for good in the opening game.  Rutgers-Camden cut the gap to 2-1 in the bottom of the frame on a single by Garcia, a walk to Jenkins and a run-scoring single by Castellini, but the Ospreys scored five runs over the fifth and sixth innings, with four of them being unearned on three Raptor errors. In the sixth inning, Arentowicz slugged a one-out three-run homer, with all the runs unearned as the result of two errors.
 
The Raptors plated their final two runs in the seventh on a RBI single by Croge and a double play ball.
 
Stockton junior Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong) picked up the win to raise her record to 7-6. She allowed 10 hits and three walks. Bibeault struck out five and only one of the three runs off her was earned.
 
Raptor sophomore Jessica Thompson (Pedricktown, NJ/Penns Grove) took the loss, despite allowing only three earned runs out of her seven allowed. Thompson (6-10) worked six innings, surrendering eight hits and four walks.  
In an offensive hitfest, Stockton collected 19 hits and Rutgers-Camden added 17 in the second game. The Ospreys plated the majority of their baserunners, however, as they scored 12 runs and left nine on base. Rutgers-Camden left 11 on base, while scoring four times.
 
Freshman first baseman Maggie Klatt (Middletown, NJ/Mater Dei) led the Stockton offense, going 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Freshman second baseman Ashley Lobell (Cedar Knolls, NJ/Whippany Park), sophomore designated player Alexis Dunphy (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley) and Shaw each added three hits.
 
Arentowicz capped her big day with a three-run home run in the Ospreys' five-run seventh inning. It was her fourth homer of the season. Sophomore third baseman Casey Schieda (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) also hit a solo home run in that inning and finished the game 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.
 
Castellini, Croge and Hans had three hits apiece in the nightcap for the Scarlet Raptors, while Mason and Jenkins both went 32-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
 
Thompson (6-11) started the second game and worked 3.1 innings, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs, before being relieved by sophomore Dannie Dinsfriend (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee). Dinsfriend hurled scoreless ball until being touched for the five runs in the seventh inning.
 
Sophomore Victoria Torp (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) picked up the win for the Ospreys, despite allowing 15 hits in six innings. Torp (7-6) allowed four earned runs and no walks, while striking out one. Bibeault allowed two hits in a scoreless seventh inning.
