CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (Sept. 1-2, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team went 2-2 in four matches played Friday and Saturday at the DeSales University Invitational. Sophomore
Jamie Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ, Pinelands Regional) was named to the all-tournament team as she collected 26 kills throughout the weekend, and adding 8 serving aces with 29 digs.
The Scarlet Raptors split matches on both days, defeating Baruch College 3-0 on Friday, and then dropping a 3-0 decision to hosts DeSales later in the day. On Saturday, the same results played out, as Rutgers-Camden took down Gwynedd-Mercy University 3-0 before dropping their final match of the weekend to Washington College 3-0.
The Scarlet Raptors will travel to Ursinus College on Tuesday, September 5
th for a non-conference matchup at 7pm.
Rutgers-Camden 3, Baruch College 0
The Scarlet Raptors cruised to a 3-0 win to open their season, defeating Baruch 25-19, 25-9, and 25-21 in straight sets. Senior
Cortnee Wilkerson (Los Angeles, CA, West Adams Prep) and
Mulligan combined for 16 total kills in the match, each collecting 8, while sophomore
Morgan Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ, Pinelands Regional) added 5.
Freshman
Emma Browning (Columbus, NJ, Northern Burlington) led Rutgers-Camden in blocks with 4, while sophomore
Caitlynn Marcano (Williamstown, NJ, Williamstown) provided a team-high 19 assists for the Scarlet Raptors. Sophomore
Meghan Gallagher (Sicklerville, NJ, Paul VI) also added 11 assists, as sophomore
Natalie DiGiacomo (Williamstown, NJ, Williamstown) led the Scarlet Raptors with 15 digs in the match.
Rutgers-Camden 0, DeSales University 3
Rutgers-Camden came up short in a tough battle with hosts DeSales by scores of 12-25, 16-25, and 21-25. This time, it was
Morgan Mulligan who led the Scarlet Raptors in kills against the Bulldogs, providing 8, while
Wilkerson and sophomore
Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, NJ, Barnegat) both added 6.
Marcano and
Gallagher again provided the team's highest assists, as they contributed 12 and 11, respectively. Junior
Myiah Gatling (Woolwich Township, NJ, Kingsway Regional) led the Scarlet Raptors with 2 blocks in the match. The Bulldogs fought off the Scarlet Raptors' defense, leading in aces (6-1) and blocks (8-2).
Gwynedd Mercy 0, Rutgers-Camden 3
The Scarlet Raptors started Saturday off on the right foot, defeating Gwynedd-Mercy in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 26-24.
Jamie Mulligan,
Wilkerson, and
Erksine again led in kills in the match, as they picked up 9, 7, and 6, respectively.
Gatling provided a team-high 3 blocks in the win.
Marcano led Rutgers-Camden in assists yet again in the match, providing 20 to her teammates.
DiGiacomo collected a team-high 16 digs. Freshman
Alyson Lowe (Havertown, PA, Haverford) and
Gallagher combined for a total of 12 digs, each supplying 6.
Rutgers-Camden 0, Washington College 3
Washington College spoiled the end of the Scarlet Raptors trip to Center Valley, despite 7 kills each from
Wilkerson and
Erksine, and 2 serving aces each from freshman
Ashley Newman (Collegeville, PA, Methacton) and
DiGiacomo. All-tournament selection
Jamie Mulligan added 5 kills, as Washington College won in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-15.
