JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Jan. 20, 2018) – The New Jersey City University men's basketball team scored the first seven points of the game, took a double-digit lead for good only 3:55 into the contest and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 76-54, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action here Saturday afternoon.
The Gothic Knights, who have been ranked as high as 19th nationally in the
D3hoops.com Top 25 poll this year and who currently have 18 votes toward that poll, improve to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Camden falls to 3-14 overall and 1-10 in the conference.
NJCU has won six straight games over Rutgers-Camden and 25 of its last 26 contests. Earlier this season the Gothic Knights won an 86-83 game in Camden on Dec. 2. They lead the all-time series, 63-5.
The Gothic Knights led by as many as 21 points in the opening half (36-15) before taking a 37-24 bulge into the break. The Scarlet Raptors never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way (39-27) and NJCU led by as many as 27 (76-49) late in the game.

Sam Toney (Plainfield, NJ/Williamstown) and 13 from sophomore guard
Jeff Haddock (Burlington Township, NJ/Willingboro). Toney, who has been the NJAC Player of the Week three times already this season, including the last two weeks, completed a double-double with a game-high 13 rebounds.
NJCU held a 41-26 advantage off the boards and forced 20 Rutgers-Camden turnovers.

Shaquan Worthy (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) collected game-high totals of eight assists and five steals for NJCU, while adding six points and six boards.

Vincent Anfield Jr. (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley), pictured above, scored a game-high 20 points for the Scarlet Raptors, giving him 87 points in his last four games (21.75 per game). Senior guard

Terrance Harris (Burlington Township, NJ/Camden Catholic) both added nine points. Harris added a team-high three steals.

Juan Perez-Jones (Trenton, NJ/Pennsbury) both notched three assists to tie for the team lead. The assists lifted Taylor's career total to 177, moving him into 10th place on the program's all-time list. He passed Rutgers-Camden Hall of Famer Ray Pace, who had 175 assists from 1975-77.

Charlie Riccardi (Mullica Hill, NJ/St. Joseph-Hammonton) tied for the team rebounding lead with six apiece.
