Raptor golfer Stolz earns Mid-Atlantic Region honor

CAMDEN, N.J. (May 16, 2018) – On a day when Richard Stolz (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) was officially named the Rutgers-Camden golf team's Most Valuable Player, the junior also received more recognition to confirm that honor.

Stolz, pictured above receiving his team MVP honor from Head Coach Bob Cardea at Tuesday night's Athletic Awards Banquet, was named on Tuesday as a member of the Division III PING All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team. The honor was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Tuesday's double honors capped a stellar first season at Rutgers-Camden for Stolz, who played two seasons at Division III golf powerhouse Methodist University before transferring to the Scarlet Raptors' program. Stolz captured North Eastern Athletic Conference First Team honors this year after earning a pair of NEAC Golfer of the Week honors during the spring season. Between the fall and spring semesters, he was named the NEAC Golfer of the Week on five occasions (Oct. 10, Oct. 17, Oct. 24, March 27 and April 3).

Stolz was a dominant force at every one of the Scarlet Raptors' invitationals during the 2017-18 scholastic year. During the fall, he averaged 76.8 in his five rounds of competition while earning overall medalist honors on three occasions. He finished first of 22 golfers to win the Stockton University Invitational Oct. 1, was first of 44 athletes at the Penn College Invitational/NEAC Fall Preview Oct. 10 and captured the Franklin & Marshall Invitational Oct. 16, beating a field of 72 golfers. In his other two outings, he tied for 17th of 59 golfers at the Moravian Fall Invitational (Sept. 28) and tied for 11th of 29 at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Fall Golf Invitational (Oct. 30).

The spring semester was a continuation of his outstanding fall performance. In nine rounds, covering eight invitationals, Stolz carded a 77.6 average, while adding medalist honors at the Scotland Run Shootout (March 31) by beating a 72-man field. He led the Scarlet Raptors at five of his eight spring invitationals and never finished lower than 10th place out of the entire fields.

Stolz also was named Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week on October 23.

Stolz becomes the third Scarlet Raptor to capture All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors in the last two years. During the 2016-17 scholastic year, both Zach Arsenault and Kevin Sarlo were recognized on the Mid-Atlantic Region team.
