Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

TCNJ men's soccer tops Rutgers-Camden, 2-0

EWING, N.J. (Oct. 2, 2019) – The College of New Jersey has traditionally been a nightmare place to play for the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team and, with a banged up lineup, the results didn't change here Wednesday night for the Scarlet Raptors.

TCNJ scored a goal in each half and went on to defeat Rutgers-Camden, 2-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.

The Lions improve to 9-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the NJAC, while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 8-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.

Although the Scarlet Raptors entered the game with a 5-2-3 record in their last 10 contests against the Lions, they had not fared well at TCNJ's home pitch in Ewing. Rutgers-Camden was 0-4-4 in its last eight games at TCNJ, entering Wednesday, dating back to its only road win ever against the Lions, a 2-1 victory on Sept. 24, 2003. Overall, the Scarlet Raptors are now 1-16-4 at TCNJ in their all-time series.

TCNJ scored the only goal it needed in the 31st minute when a Luke Yates throw-in was headed into the net by Dante Bettino for his fourth goal of the season. The Lions added an insurance tally in the 70th minute on an unassisted strike by Michael Maltese.

TCNJ held a 16-15 edge in shots and the Scarlet Raptors had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-2.

Junior Kieran Burns played the first 32:31 in goal for the Raptors, making two saves and allowing one goal. Senior Kyler White finished up the game, making three saves and allowing one goal.

Daniel Mecadon had six saves to post the shutout for TCNJ.

The contest was the 80th career game at Rutgers-Camden for senior midfielder Zach Fox, making him only the 25th player in program history to reach that plateau.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. NJAC game at New Jersey City University.
