Volleyball team drops NJAC opener at Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (Sept. 17, 2019) – The Rutgers University- Camden volleyball team opened its New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule on the road, losing at Rutgers-Newark, 3-1.
 
The Scarlet Raiders (6-3 overall, 1-0 NJAC) won by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 24-26 and 25-23. They were led by Comfort Akinbo, with 14 kills and three assisted blocks.
 
Senior Morgan Mulligan led the Scarlet Raptors (4-5/0-1) with a team-high 11 kills, while adding 13 digs. Senior Jordan Erskine added nine kills and sophomore Devyn Cobb collected six kills.
 
Sophomore Brinn Hassan led the team in assists with 17 and added six digs and four kills, while sophomore Morgan Fox had a team-high 19 digs.
 
Sophomore Kayla Benesz had 15 assists and 12 digs, while sophomore Savannah Hayes notched 15 digs and a team-high three service aces. Sophomore Haley Novak contributed 11 digs, while senior Jamie Mulligan added nine digs and four kills.
 
The Scarlet Raptors return home on Thursday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match against Rosemont College.
