Over the next several weeks, Rutgers University-Camden will be highlighting senior student-athletes who were denied their final athletic season when the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled their spring semester competition. In their own words, departing athletes will discuss their experiences at Rutgers-Camden.
Â
The feature will be posted every Monday and Thursday.
Â
Today's focus is on
Dante Camilli, a pitcher/first baseman whose three years with the Rutgers-Camden baseball program were unfortunately spent recovering from an injury. He finally was able to get a plate appearance during the Raptors' short six-game season this spring and drew a bases-loaded walk pick up one RBI. The Business Management major was a Dean's List student who received numerous academic honors.
Â
1. What is your favorite memory being a student-athlete at Rutgers-Camden?
Â
My favorite memory is when I took
Joe Kidd yard in our pre-season inter-squad.Â
Â
2. What will you miss the most?
Â
I will miss the competition in practice every day and the wraps from Friend's Cafe on Saturdays.Â
Â
3. What is the best advice you have received from your coach?
Â
The best advice my coaches gave me was to take everything one day at a time and build off every success you have.Â
Â
4. What is next for you? What are your future plans and goals?
Â
I will be going to Villanova Law School in the fall for a concentration in Sports Law. I hope to get into work with the MLB with teams or by representing players.Â
Â
5. Any special thanks, acknowledgements, or final words?
Â
I want to thank my teammates and my parents for supporting me through my career and my recovery from Tommy John. I would also like to thank Coach Kulik and the new staff for helping me get better every day. I regret not being able to finally compete on the field with my teammates but all of the work and time that we put in has prepared me for my future. The program is in a really good place now and I can't wait to come back and watch my guys take the NJAC soon.Â
