Raptors' Blocker named NJAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

CAMDEN, N.J. (Nov. 8, 2021) – It didn't take guard Rahzirah Blocker long to make an impact in collegiate basketball.

Blocker scored a game-high 30 points in her first game Sunday, and as a result, she was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week when the NJAC released its honors today.

A junior academically who has freshman eligibility in basketball, Blocker previously attended Salem Community College, but wasn't able to play since the season was cancelled by the pandemic. She made her first collegiate appearance Sunday, starting the Scarlet Raptors' 77-61 season-opening loss against Penn State University-Lehigh Valley.

Blocker had a tremendous performance in the loss, shooting 13-for-26 from the field and 4-for-5 from the foul line on her way to a game-high 30 points. It was the most points by a Rutgers-Camden player since Fatimah Williams had games of 43 and 34 points in February, 2020. She becomes the first Scarlet Raptor to earn NJAC Player of the Week recognition since Williams on November 18, 2019.

Blocker also tied for game-high rebounding honors with eight, while adding two assists and one steal.

In addition to her NJAC Player of the Week honor, Blocker also earned Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week recognition.

A multi-sport star at Clayton High School, she was an All-Tri-County Conference First Team basketball player, ran cross country for two years and was an Honor Roll student.

Blocker is a Computer Science major at Rutgers-Camden.
