NEWARK, N.J. (Dec. 11, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Newark basketball team went on a 22-point first-half run and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 79-44, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday night.
The Scarlet Raiders, who have won four straight games, improved to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raptors fell to 0-10 and 0-5.
Newark has won its last six games and 12 of the last 13 against Camden to lead the all-time series, 57-36.
Newark never trailed in the game, which was tied once at 2-2. With 12:40 remaining in the opening half, Raptor sophomore guard
Gavin Henry nailed a three-pointer to cut the Rutgers-Camden deficit to 11-9. Those were the Raptors' last points for the next 11:18, as Newark rattled off 22 straight points, beginning with a layup by sophomore forward Raymond Mundrick, to take a 33-11 lead. The run finally ended with 1:22 remaining in the half on a layup by sophomore guard
Jaymes Savage.
Newark led, 36-11, at halftime.
The Scarlet Raiders received 14 points and two blocked shots from senior forward Jamir Patterson, while senior guard Quincy Rutherford had 12 points and five rebounds. Senior guard BJ Honis added 11 points for Newark, which placed 13 players in the scoring column.

Tristan Cornish scored 10 points and added four rebounds, while freshman guard
Andrew Walker added seven points. Henry and freshman guard
Anthony Orzechowski scored six points apiece and Savage tied Cornish with a team-high four rebounds.
Camden shot 16-for-44 (36.4 percent) from the floor, while Newark shot 31-for-54 (57.4). The Scarlet Raiders held a 31-26 advantage in rebounds and forced 26 Scarlet Raptor turnovers.
The Scarlet Raptors are idle until Jan. 3, when they host Gwynedd Mercy University in a 3 p.m. non-conference game.
