JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Dec. 4, 2021) – Senior forward Kayton Darley scored seven of the first 16 points for the New Jersey City University men's basketball team here Saturday, sparking the Gothic Knights to a 29-point halftime lead on the way to a 95-53 victory over Rutgers University-Camden.
The Gothic Knights improved to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
NJCU has won its last 13 games against Rutgers-Camden and owns a 69-5 lead in the all-time series.
NJCU never trailed, scoring the first six points. After Rutgers-Camden cut the gap to 6-4, the Gothic Knights ran off the next 10 points on the way to a 51-22 halftime lead. Darley scored 14 points in the opening half, while senior guard Denzel Banks added 12.
Darley finished with 22 points, while Banks added 15, sophomore forward Ryan Savoy netted 12 and senior guard Marvellous Akingbala had 10 points and five rebounds.
Rutgers-Camden received 14 points from sophomore forward
Tristan Cornish and 10 points and four assists from freshman guard

Gavin Henry dished off a team-high four assists.
Rutgers-Camden shot 17-for-45 (37.8 percent) from the floor, including 3-for-16 (18.8) from three-point range. NJCU shot 50 percent from the floor (32-for-64) and 12-for-22 (54.5) from three-point range.
The Gothic Knights had a 44-27 advantage off the boards and forced Rutgers-Camden into 12 more turnovers than NJCU made (28-16).
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday with a 3 p.m. NJAC game at New Jersey City University.
