CAMDEN, N.J. (Feb. 13, 2021) – The College of New Jersey women's basketball team rode the hot hand of sophomore guard Julia Setaro as the undefeated Lions defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 82-65, here Saturday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
Setaro drilled in 29 points, including 22 in the first half, as the Lions improved to 4-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference. She drilled seven three-pointers, including six in the opening half. Her performance comes one day after she scored 21 – all in the first half – as the Lions defeated the Scarlet Raptors up in Ewing on Friday night.
TCNJ has won its last eight games against Rutgers-Camden and holds a 62-12 lead in the all-time series.
Rutgers-Camden (0-4/0-4) never led in the game after quickly falling behind, 6-0 and 9-3. The Raptors managed to cut their first-quarter deficit to one point (11-10) before a jumper by TCNJ senior forward Shannon Devitt started the Lions on an eight-point run. The closest the Raptors came after that was four points (25-21) on a three-pointer by freshman guard
Chloe Bennett early in the second quarter.
By halftime, the Lions held a 39-28 lead and they stretched the margin to 55-36 after three quarters. Their biggest lead, 53-32, came near the end of the third quarter.
In addition to Setaro, Devitt and sophomore guard Sydney Blum scored 15 points apiece for the Lions, who placed 12 players in the scoring column. Sophomore forward Morgan Heller led a balanced effort off the board for the Lions, grabbing seven rebounds to help TCNJ hold a 38-30 advantage off the glass.
The Scarlet Raptors received 16 points from sophomore forward
Jalissa Pitts. Bennett notched a career-high 12, aided by her four treys. Junior guard
Kylar Coughlin scored 11 points and junior forward
Tiazha Jackson added 10.
Pitts and Jackson led the Raptors' effort off the boards with nine and eight, respectively. Coughlin had a team-high four assists.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC play Friday with a 6 p.m. road game at Stockton University.
