Eisler's milestone helps Scarlet Raptors topple 17th-ranked Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. (April 16, 2021) – Senior right fielder Billy Eisler and his Rutgers University-Camden baseball teammates had plenty of reasons to celebrate here Friday.

Eisler went 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs from the leadoff spot, including his milestone 100th career hit, to help the Scarlet Raptors defeat nationally-ranked Rowan University, 8-4, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.

The victory lifted Rutgers-Camden to 6-8 overall and 5-3 in the NJAC. Rowan, ranked 17th in this week's D3baseball.com Top 25 poll, fell to 9-3 overall and 7-1 in the NJAC, snapping a seven-game winning streak. It was the fifth win in the last six games for the Scarlet Raptors, a string only interrupted by a 12-4 loss at Rowan on Thursday.

With Rutgers batting as the home team since the Scarlet Raptors are without a stadium this season, the game had the ominous feel of Thursday's outcome in the top of the second inning. A two-out infield error led to three unearned runs being scored off Raptor sophomore starter Jack Murphy, putting Rutgers-Camden in a quick 3-0 hole. The Scarlet Raptor offense, however, quickly reversed the momentum in the bottom of the frame. With two outs, back-to-back singles by freshman third baseman Auggie Uzdanovics and senior catcher Thomas Gosse preceded a walk to sophomore second baseman Danny Vazquez. Eisler unloaded the bases with a game-tying double.

The score remained knotted at 3-3 until the top of the sixth inning when the Profs scored the go-ahead run on a single, a sacrifice and two wild pitches. Once again, however, Rutgers-Camden bounced right back to tie the game when Vazquez hit a two-out single in the bottom of the frame and Eisler came through with his milestone 100th career hit. His double to left-center plated Vazquez to knot the score at 4-4 and give him all four RBIs for Rutgers-Camden.

The Scarlet Raptors broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth with four runs, loading the bases with no outs on a walk to Gosse and singles by Vazquez and Eisler. After a fielder's choice erased Gosse at the plate, senior left fielder R.J. Concepcion delivered a two-run single. One out later, junior center fielder Brett Yurgin tripled home two more runs.

Eisler finished the day 3-for-5 with one run, two doubles and four RBIs as he pushed his career hit total to 101. Vazquez went 3-for-3 with three runs, while Concepcion went 2-for-2 with two walks, a hit by pitch and two RBIs. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Murphy had a stellar outing for the Scarlet Raptors, allowing just six hits in six innings. Out of the four runs charged against him, only one was earned. He walked five and struck out three without getting a decision. Junior Stephen Brady earned the win with three no-hit scoreless innings. Brady (2-1) allowed only one runner on a ninth-inning walk, while also collecting one strikeout.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday with a NJAC doubleheader at Montclair State University, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
