CAMDEN, N.J. (April 26, 2021) – Rutgers University-Camden senior
Jude Misko (Philadelphia, PA/Cherry Hill East) has been dominating his competition in the hammer throw all season long. This weekend wasn't any different, resulting in Misko capturing his second honor of the season today as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for Outdoor Track and Field.
Misko also won the honor on March 29.
Misko was one of only two Rutgers-Camden athletes to compete at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Intercollegiate Invitational Saturday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. The meet included athletes from Divisions I, II and III, so Misko was competing against the best hammer throwers in the area. He won the 10-man hammer competition with an amazing throw of 61.19 meters, the top NCAA Division III mark in the country this spring.
Misko's mark broke his own Rutgers-Camden program record, a feat he has accomplished three times in his four meets this spring. His latest program record, before Saturday, was 59.56 meters, set on April 2 at the second Stockton Invitational of the season.
Misko has finished first in the hammer throw at each of his four meets this season. His shortest throw of the year, 56.20 meters, would be long enough for seventh in the nation, had he not already been leading the country with his recent throw. His other two throws of 57.97 and 59.56 would rank fifth and fourth, nationally in Division III.
Misko's hammer throw on Saturday allowed him to beat the runner-up, Alex Kristeller of Widener, who recorded a throw of 59.84 meters. Prior to Saturday, Kristeller had the longest Division III hammer throw in the nation at 61.14 meters.
Misko earned JUCO All-American honors and was the national champion in the hammer while competing with Rowan College at Gloucester County (now Rowan College of South Jersey-Gloucester).
In addition to holding the Rutgers-Camden hammer mark, Misko holds the school's indoor track record in the weight throw (17.03 meters).
Since completing his RCGC career and coming to Rutgers-Camden, Misko has earned NJAC First Team honors in the hammer, won the ECAC championship in the event and earned USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region recognition. Those honors came during the 2019 outdoor season. The 2020 outdoor season was cancelled due to the pandemic.
Misko also has added NJAC First Team and an ECAC championship in the weight throw during his lone indoor season in 2019-20. The 2020-21 indoor season also fell victim to the pandemic.
