CAMDEN, N.J. (April 3, 2021) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team scored the first 14 goals of the game and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 20-5, in the Scarlet Raptors' season opener here Saturday afternoon.
Kean improves to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rutgers-Camden is 0-1 and 0-1.
The Cougars' junior attack Dana Meehan scored 41 seconds into the game and senior midfielder Maddy Leigh added a pair of goals in the next four minutes.
Rutgers-Camden was out-shot, 18-1, in the opening half, with the one shot producing a goal by junior midfielder
Jazmin Torres with 13 seconds remaining in the half.
Kean received five goals from Meehan and three from junior defender Maddy Varellie. Leigh and fellow midfielders Rosalee Lachner and Katie Pileggi added two goals apiece. Senior attack Amanda Ehrhart collected three assists, while also adding one goal.
The Scarlet Raptors received two goals from Torres, while junior midfielder

Isabella Tamburrino and
Linsey Becker added one goal apiece. Torres also had five draw controls for the Scarlet Raptors.
Kean finished with a 29-7 advantage in shots, with freshman goalie Morgan Harris making one save to earn her first collegiate win. The Scarlet Raptors split goalie duties between senior

Gina Bellon, with both players collecting two saves.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Friday when it hosts Montclair State University in a 4 p.m. NJAC game.
