CAMDEN, NJ (Sept. 18, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team has jumped off to an impressive start this fall semester, but perhaps no match was as impressive as the victory the Scarlet Raptors secured here Saturday.
Facing a team that reached the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament last season, the Raptors won two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches on their way to a 6-3 victory over Moravian College.
The win raises the Scarlet Raptors' record to 4-0. It was the first match of the fall for Moravian, which returned five players from its 11-1 team last season.
Rutgers-Camden took the first doubles, 8-3, behind sophomore
Sarah Ahrens and senior
Tiffany Trivers. The Scarlet Raptors also won at third doubles, with an 8-0 victory by seniors
LeAnne Hall and
Morgan Dempsey. At second doubles, Moravian took a narrow 8-7 win over sophomore
Samantha Hoban and junior
Laurel DiStefano.
In singles play, Ahrens posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the top spot and Hoban won 2-6, 7-5 (11-9) at the second singles. Hall won at the fifth spot (6-4, 6-0) and Dempsey took a 6-0, 6-1 victory at sixth singles. Trivers (2-6, 3-6) and DiStefano (1-6, 3-6) were defeated at the third and fourth singles, respectively.
The Scarlet Raptors are right back in action on Sunday when they play an 11 a.m. match at York College of Pennsylvania.
