Women's tennis team earns sweep over Drew

CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 26, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team remained on its season-long roll here Sunday and this time the Scarlet Raptors rolled a lucky seven.
 
Rutgers-Camden raised its record to 7-0 as it swept past Drew University, 9-0, in the Rangers' first match of the season. It was the second sweep of the season for Rutgers-Camden, which also posted a 9-0 win at Immaculata University on Sept. 5.
 
The Raptors' top doubles team of sophomore Sarah Ahrens and senior Tiffany Trivers raised their perfect record to 7-0 as they posted an 8-3 victory at the top spot. Sophomore Samantha Hoban and junior Laurel DiStefano cruised to an 8-2 victory at second doubles, while the third doubles team of seniors LeAnne Hall and Morgan Dempsey earned an 8-1 victory, raising their season record to 6-0.
 
Ahrens won at first singles, 6-2, 4-6, 10-1, and Hoban improved her second singles mark to a spotless 7-0 with a 7-5, 6-4 victory. At third singles, Trivers posted a 6-3, 6-2 win, while DiStefano notched a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the fourth spot. Hall's 6-1, 6-3 victory at fifth singles raised her season mark to 5-1, while Dempsey notched a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles. Both Trivers and Dempsey own 5-2 records in singles play this season.
 
The win completed the third weekend sweep of the season for the Scarlet Raptors, who posted a 6-3 win at Bryn Mawr College on Saturday. They also won two weekend matches on Sept. 4-5 and Sept. 18-19. This weekend, a trio of Scarlet Raptors won all four of their matches, with Ahrens, Trivers and Hall earning sweeps. Hoban and Dempsey both won three matches, while DiStefano captured two.
 
Trivers' win in singles moved her alone into second place on the program's career chart with 26 singles wins. She broke a tie with Danielle Lemma (2016-20), while Hall's victory tied her with Lemma in third place on the all-time singles chart. Both Hall and Trivers also are tied for second place with 26 doubles wins. For overall wins, Trivers ranks second and Hall ranks third on the career chart with 52 and 51 victories, respectively.
 
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Oct. 9-10 at the Goucher Invitational.
