BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 10, 2021) – Several members of the Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team competed at the Goucher College Invitational Saturday and Sunday, with senior
Tiffany Trivers reaching the C singles championship match and seniors
Morgan Dempsey and
LeAnne Hall going 2-1 in the B doubles competition.
Trivers posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over St. Mary's Ellie Walter and then toppled Lebanon Valley's Sarah Kramer (5-7, 6-1, 10-5) to reach the finals. She lost 8-4 in the championship match against Gillian Rozenfeld of Gettysburg.
Hall and Dempsey won their first doubles match over Shelby Meek and Eliza Abady of host Goucher (6-2, 6-1). They lost their second match, 2-6, 5-7, against the eventual champions, Madison Poladian and Eliana Shenk of Lebanon Valley, but bounced back for a 6-2, 6-4 win in Round 3 over Jenna Bryszewski and Brynn Bowman of Stockton.
In the A singles competition, sophomore
Sarah Ahrens went 1-2, winning her first match of Lily Muir of Stockton (4-6, 6-0, 10-2), losing to Gettysburg's Andrea Brazyte (6-1, 0-6, 9-11) in Round 2 and falling 5-8 against Lorena Pintar of Frostburg in the third round.
Sophomore
Samantha Hoban went 1-2 in the B singles competition, winning her first match against Immaculata's Annamarie Degnan (7-5, 6-2). She lost in Round 2 to Elena Nunez of Stockton (3-6, 0-6) and in Round 3 to Ramapo's Melanie Brentnall (6-8).
In the D singles, junior
Laurel DiStefano dropped her two matches on Saturday against Alex Rieg of Gettysburg (0-6, 3-6) and Abbie Hoffer of Lebanon Valley (5-7, 5-7). In her third-round match on Sunday, DiStefano defeated Giselle Harris of St. Mary's by an 8-2 score.
Junior
Alyna Cabrera was forced to withdraw in the second set of her opening match in the E singles competition while losing to Goucher's Sarai Silviera, 0-6, 0-2 (withdraw). She also had to withdraw from her other two scheduled matches.
The Scarlet Raptors return to dual play on Saturday when they close out the fall semester by hosting Cedar Crest College at 12 p.m.
