NEW YORK, N.Y. (Dec. 30, 2022) – The Baruch College men's basketball team placed three players in double figures, led by 15 points from senior guard Devin Nicholson, as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 62-47, in a non-conference game here Friday afternoon.
The win lifted the Bearcats' record to 9-3 and their winning streak to six games. The Scarlet Raptors fell to 2-10 with their sixth straight loss.
The teams traded leads five times in the opening half, which included a 10-point run by Rutgers-Camden to grab a 28-22 lead. Sophomore guard
Kobe Devine had five points in that run.
Baruch countered with eight straight points, taking the lead for good on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Gerard Nicholson, 30-28. The home team opened up a 35-29 halftime lead and scored the first six points of the second half. The Scarlet Raptors never cut the deficit under 10 points the rest of the way.
In addition to Devin Nicholson, Baruch received 13 points from junior forward Emil Purisic and 12 from junior forward Mohamed Gueye, who added 15 rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots.
Sophomore forward
Jordany Pierre collected 11 points and nine rebounds for Rutgers-Camden, while junior forward
Rich Santos added nine points. Senior guard
Jaymes Savage notched a team high of 10 rebounds, while freshman forward
Cameron Downs joined Pierre with nine rebounds.
Savage also added three assists and three steals.
Baruch shot 21-for-50 (42.0 percent) from the field, while Rutgers-Camden went 17-for-61 (27.9). The Raptors shot 5-for-27 (18.5) from three-point range, while the Bearcats were 5-for-16 (31.3). Rutgers-Camden held a 47-35 advantage off the boards.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Wednesday, January 4, with an 8 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference game at Kean University,
