CLERMONT, Florida (March 13, 2022) – After watching their first scheduled day of contests at The Spring Games get washed out on Saturday, the Rutgers University-Camden softball team finally had the chance to begin playing in Florida on Sunday.
The Scarlet Raptors were one-hit in their opening game, a 5-0 loss against Carroll University of Waukesha, Wisconsin. In the nightcap, a two-out error with the bases loaded in the last inning let the Scarlet Raptors walk off with a 2-1 victory over Wheaton (Mass.) College.
The Scarlet Raptors (1-3) resume action in Florida on Monday with games against FDU-Florham and St. Norbert College.
Carroll 5, Rutgers-Camden 0
The Pioneers (3-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and that was more than enough for junior pitcher Breanna Roberts, who evened her record at 1-1 with a one-hit shutout. Roberts walked three, hit one batter and allowed only a two-out single in the top of the sixth inning to Raptor sophomore pitcher

Kimmy Musarra was the only Raptor to reach base twice, drawing a pair of walks.
Carroll scored three times in the opening frame on three hits, including a two-run double by senior first baseman Kaylee Learman. Following a single by senior third baseman Madison Wagner, Learman scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore right fielder Bridget Rath.
Carroll tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fifth on three hits, sparked by a leadoff double from Learman, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Wagner had a 3-for-4 game for the Pioneers.
Ampole (0-1) allowed 12 hits, one walk and five earned runs over six innings of work.
Rutgers-Camden 2, Wheaton 1
In their second game of the day, the Raptors saw junior pitcher
Rachel White (1-2) outduel Lyons sophomore Sophia Knopf (0-1) in a game decided by a seventh-inning error by the Wheaton shortstop.
With the game tied at 1-1, Rutgers-Camden started the decisive bottom of the seventh with a walk to sophomore left fielder
Alexa McNee. A pair of sacrifices moved her to third before senior shortstop
Meg Gray was hit by a pitch and senior designated player
Alexis Schauer drew a walk. White helped plate her own winning run when she reached on an infield error that scored McNee.
White plated the first Raptor run on a fielder's choice in the third inning and Wheaton tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the fourth by senior first baseman Tristan Keller.
White allowed only one hit and one earned run over her seven-inning complete game, surrendering a leadoff single by Keller in the second inning. She walked three, struck out three and hit a batter.
