DAVENPORT, Fla. (March 11, 2024) – Junior
Ryan Rumsey worked seven strong innings of six-hit ball to power the Rutgers University-Camden baseball team over the University of Saint Joseph, 6-1, at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational here Monday.
Rutgers-Camden improved to 7-3 with its second straight win, while Saint Joseph (West Hartford, Connecticut) fell to 2-6.
The Scarlet Raptors plated a pair of runs in the third inning following a leadoff walk to junior shortstop

Jacob Watson reached on an error and both players advanced when senior second baseman
Danny Vazquez sacrificed and reached on a throwing error by Saint Joseph's pitcher. One out later, senior designated hitter
Jack Murphy ripped a two-run single through the left side of the infield.
Rutgers-Camden added three runs in the fifth, beginning when Vazquez singled and moved up on a ground out. He scored on a ground rule double by Murphy. Junior third baseman

The Blue Jays finally scored a run against Rumsey in the seventh inning. Singles by graduate student second baseman Luke Fox and sophomore left fielder Ryan Quinn set the stage for Fox to score on a fielder's choice. Rumsey (2-1) finished his day working seven innings, allowing six hits, one earned run and two walks, while striking out seven.

Senior
Dustin Bellis tossed a scoreless eighth inning for the Raptors, allowing two hits and collecting two strikeouts. Freshman
D.J. Juliano finished the game with a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Offensively for the Scarlet Raptors, Vazquez went 2-for-2 with one run scored to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Murphy went 2-for-4 with one run and three RBIs, while Petrick was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
The Scarlet Raptors play a pair of games in Auburndale on Tuesday, facing Cornell College (Mount Vernon, Iowa) at 9:30 a.m. and SUNY-Oneonta (Oneonta, New York) at 1:15 p.m.
