CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 27, 2025) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team had an unexpected week off due to a storm that wiped out a scheduled game at Alvernia University on Tuesday.
The Scarlet Raptors didn't let the layoff affect them, however, and when the New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule kicked off here Saturday, Rutgers-Camden was ready.
Senior center midfielder
Brandon Valeri collected two goals and one assist to power the Scarlet Raptors over Ramapo College, 4-1.
Rutgers-Camden improves to 4-3-2 overall and 1-0 in NJAC play, snapping a 0-3-1 drought. Ramapo, which saw its five-game winning streak snapped, falls to 7-2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The victory was the Raptors' fifth straight over the Roadrunners in their NJAC series.
Rutgers-Camden played a strong opening half and held a 2-0 lead with less than one minute remaining before the break when the Roadrunners notched their lone goal to cut the Raptors' advantage in half at the break. Freshman Francisco Perez-Rodriguez scored from a mass in the box off a corner kick by Jalal Khalifeh.
Rutgers-Camden jumped on the board in the sixth minute when a junior forward
Rohan Castillo sent a cross from the right side to the far post, where senior
Evan Isenbarger finished his first career goal. The Scarlet Raptors added their second goal at the 30-minute mark on a breakaway by Valeri up the middle.
After Ramapo cut the gap to 2-1 with 58 seconds left in the half, Rutgers-Camden countered with one of its strongest halves of the season. The Scarlet Raptors outshot the Roadrunners, 13-2, in the second half and had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks during the final 45 minutes. One of those corner kicks, by Valeri, was headed in at the back post by Castillo in the 57th minute to make it a 3-1 game.
The Scarlet Raptors tacked on their final goal after a foul in the box and Valeri converted the penalty kick at 71:36.
Rutgers-Camden finished with a 20-9 advantage in shots and a 9-3 margin in corner kicks.
The Scarlet Raptors received a strong game in goal from junior
Chris Clune, who earned his first career win in his first career start. Clune finished with two saves officially, but came up huge on a number of occasions to stop potential threats.
Ramapo junior goalie Zachary Nutt finished with eight saves.
The Scarlet Raptors return to NJAC action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. game at Rutgers-Newark.
