Scarlet Raptors have a rough start at Gettysburg Classic

Box Score GETTYSBURG, PA (Aug. 31, 2013) - Rutgers-Camden traveled to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania this weekend to compete in the Gettysburg Classic. The Scarlet Raptors were scheduled to play four matches throughout the Tournament with two on Friday, August 30th and two on Saturday, August 31st.


Rutgers-Camden 0 Washington College 3


Rutgers-Camden opened against Washington College on Friday at 3:00pm. The Shorewomen beat the Scarlet Raptors 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, and 25-20).


Courtnee Wilkerson (Los Angeles, CA/West Adams Prep) recorded 8 kills and 5 digs, while Olivia Rowland (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) added 8 Kills.


Brooke Hassan (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) had a team high of 15 assists.



Rutgers-Camden 0 Stevenson University 3




The Scarlet Raptors second game of the day was against Stevenson University. The Mustangs beat Rutgers-Camden 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, and 25-16).


Melanie Kaiser (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling), defensive specialist/libero, had a great defensive performance with 13 digs, while Cari Applegate (Stradford, NJ/Sterling) added 9.


Michelle Dixon (Sicklerville, NJ/Eastern) had a team high of 10 assists.



Rutgers-Camden 2 Gettysburg College 3


Rutgers-Camden opened Saturday against Gettysburg College at 10:00am. The Bullets took down the Scarlet Raptors 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 25-12, 25-22, and 15-13).


Junior setter Michelle Dixon (Sicklerville, NJ/Eastern) recorded with 22 assists, while Brooke Hassan (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) added 22.


Morgan Halbruner (Vorhees, NJ/Eastern) and Olivia Rowland (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) displayed great power and intensity combining with 23 kills.



Rutgers-Camden 0 Salisbury University 3


The Scarlet Raptors second game of the day was against Salisbury University. The Sea Gulls won 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, and 25-15).



Sophomore setter Brooke Hassan was selected to the 2013 Battlefield Classic All-Tournament Team. She recorded 8 kills, 42 assists, and 17 digs in four matches.



"Brooke has amazing skills as a setter. Her hands are some of the best I have seen," said Head Coach Matt Dever. "I had other coaches coming up to me to just chat about how well Brooke was playing. All of them wished they had a Hassan on their team. It was a good feeling to have other coaches go on and on about her, but it wasn't a surprise. When we heard that she was coming to Rutgers we got very excited and cant wait to see how far she can lead us this year."



Rutgers-Camden (0-4, NJAC 0-0) will travel to Muhlenberg College on Friday, September 6th to compete in the Buttermaker Tournament.
