Gravinese's career-high 27 points lifts Raptors over Yeshiva

CAMDEN, N.J. – Senior guard Alex Gravinese (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) scored a career-high 27 points , including nine as the Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team surged to a quick 25-5 lead, and the Scarlet Raptors went on to defeat Yeshiva University, 80-36, in a non-conference game here Sunday.
 
Rutgers-Camden improves to 2-7, snapping a five-game losing streak that came in New Jersey Athletic Conference games.  The Raptors' 44-point margin of victory was the most since their first win of the season, a 68-24 win at Bryn Mawr College on Nov. 19.
 
Yeshiva falls to 2-8.
 
The Scarlet Raptors jumped to a 20-point lead with only 9:49 gone in the opening half and led, 44-18, at the break. Gravinese scored 16 points in the opening half, while senior center Tanjae Lewis (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) notched eight points and seven rebounds in the opening half. Lewis also added four of her career-high five steals in the opening 20 minutes.
 
The Maccabees received six first-half points apiece from junior forwards Julia Owen (Seattle, WA/Northwest Yeshiva) and Rachel Mirsky (White Plains, NY/Yeshiva High School for Girls).

Rutgers-Camden led by as many as 48 points in the second half (72-24 and 78-30) as it placed three players in double figures offensively and had 10 break into the scoring column.
 
Gravinese went 11-for-19 from the floor, including 5-for-11 from three-point range, on the way to her 27 points. Her previous high of 26 came against the College of Staten Island on Feb. 17, 2014. Her five treys were three shy of her own single-game program mark, set in the same Staten Island game.
 
In addition to her five steals, Lewis finished with a double-double of 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, marking her fourth double-double of the season.

Freshman forward Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) collected 14 points, five boards and three steals, while freshman guard Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) set a career high with seven steals and tied her high of six assists. She added eight points and nine rebounds.
 
The Scarlet Raptors also received 17 points and 19 rebounds off the bench, including a career-high eight boards for freshman forward Christine Ogunleye (Willingboro, NJ/Linden Hall). The Raptors held a 56-34 advantage off the boards, forced 36 Yeshiva turnovers and shot 35-for-86 (40.7 percent) from the floor.
 
Owen finished with 19 points for the Maccabees, while Mirsky and sophomore forward Simee Rosner (Woodsburgh, NY/HAFTR) both added six. Rosner collected a team-high eight rebounds, one more than both Owen and Mirsky.
 
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday, hosting St. Joseph's College-Long Island in a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
 
Yeshiva is idle until Jan. 25, when it plays a 1 p.m. game at Albany College of Pharmacy.
