Paterson defeats Rutgers-Camden

Box Score WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson University women's basketball team grabbed a 23-point halftime lead and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 75-50, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.

Paterson, which has won 16 straight games against Rutgers-Camden to take a 47-9 lead in the all-time series, improves to 15-9 overall and 12-5 in the NJAC. The Pioneers have won five straight games.

Rutgers-Camden drops to 4-18 overall and 0-17 in the NJAC with its eighth straight loss.
Tina Croxton scored a career-high 17 points
After taking an early 6-2 lead, the Scarlet Raptors watched the Pioneers run off the next 10 points, taking the lead for good, 7-6, on a three-pointer by senior guard Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown).

By halftime, the Pioneers held a 44-21 advantage, with senior forward Dana Jeter (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) leading the way with 13 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) had eight points and five assists. Overall, the Pioneers had eight first-half steals and forced 17 Scarlet Raptor turnovers.

Borova finished with 16 points and six assists, shooting 5-for-6 from the floor, including 3-for-4 from three-point range. Jeter added a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. She also added three blocked shots.

Jackiewicz canned 12 points for the Pioneers, while freshman forward Ariana Gomez (Garfield, NJ/Garfield) added eight points.

Overall, the Pioneers placed 11 players in the scoring column.

For the Scarlet Raptors, senior center Tina Croxton (Deptford, NJ/Deptford) collected a career-high 17 points, aided by her 11-for-12 shooting from the foul line. She also went 3-for-6 from the floor and added three blocked shots, hiking her career total to 124. She is two blocks shy of fifth-place Michelle Riley (1996-00) on the program's all-time list.

Croxton's previous career high in scoring was 12 points against Richard Stockton College Feb. 2, 2011.

Sophomore forward Michelle Onu (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) notched 11 points and eight rebounds, while junior center/forward Tanjae Lewis (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) added eight points and six rebounds for the Scarlet Raptors.

Junior guard/forward Irene Grimanis (Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester) hauled down seven rebounds for the Scarlet Raptors, giving her an even 400 for her career.

Freshman guard Brianna Walker (Camden, NJ/LEAP Academy) added a career-high four rebounds for Rutgers-Camden.

The Pioneers shot only 35.2 percent from the floor (25-for-71), but held a 52-50 edge off the boards, limited Rutgers-Camden to 28.1 percent shooting (16-for-57) and forced 29 Scarlet Raptor turnovers.

Rutgers-Camden travels to The College of Staten Island for a 7 p.m. makeup game Monday night. It closes its season on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. NJAC home game against New Jersey City University, when the Scarlet Raptors will celebrate the careers of Croxton and Danielle Hooks (Plainfield, NJ/Plainfield) on Senior Night.
