GALLOWAY, N.J. (Oct. 23, 2015) – Rainouts in the middle of the season placed a big gap in the Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis schedule, but the Scarlet Raptors finally started completing their campaign here Friday.
Rutgers-Camden, which postponed three matches due to weather and didn't play between Sept. 21 and Oct. 10, swung back into action with an 8-1 loss in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match at Stockton University. The match was the first of a three-day, three-match run to end the season, the Scarlet Raptors' second stretch of that nature during the second half of their fall schedule. They also played three consecutive matches from Oct. 10-12, the last time they saw intercollegiate competition before Friday.
The Scarlet Raptors fall to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC, while Stockton closed its season at 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
Senior
Amanda Hickman (Millville, NJ/Millville) posted the Raptors' lone win with a 7-6, 6-2 victory at first singles. She raised her singles mark to 7-2 this season and earned her 44th career singles win, extending her own program record.
Sophomore
Angela Errigo (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision at second singles and teamed with Hickman as they lost at first doubles, 8-2.
Junior
Christine Abacan (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) lost at third singles (6-1, 6-0), while junior
Alexa Rocks (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and freshman
Bryana Foxx-Parham (Richmond, VA/Armstrong) dropped their matches at fourth and fifth singles by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Abacan and Rocks lost at second doubles, 8-0, and the short-handed Scarlet Raptors lost sixth singles and third doubles y default.
The Scarlet Raptors close out their season with consecutive NJAC home makeup matches this weekend. They host Ramapo College on Saturday at 12 p.m. and play William Paterson University at 1 p.m. Sunday.
