Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Penn. (Nov. 15, 2015) – The Roanoke College men's basketball team raced to a 26-point halftime lead and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 116-82, here Sunday in the consolation game of the Penn State Harrisburg 2015 Tip-Off Tournament.
The 116 points allowed tied for the ninth-highest total in Rutgers-Camden program history and was the most since a 121-79 loss to Ramapo College on Jan. 28, 2006.
Roanoke evened its record at 1-1, while Rutgers-Camden fell to 0-2.
The Maroons placed three scorers in double figures in the first half while building to a 67-41 lead. Junior guard
John Fitchett (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) notched 16 first-half points, while sophomore forward
Joey Miller (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) collected 15 and sophomore guard
Dustin Hassell (Troutville, VA/Lord Botetourt) added 10. Freshman forward
John Caldwell (Spartanville, SC/Christ School, NC) poured in nine first-half points while senior forward
Cameron Smith (Lexington, NC/Northeast Guilford) added eight.
After the two teams were tied at 5-5, Roanoke went on a 37-16 run to break open the game at 42-21. The Maroons out-rebounded the Raptors, 30-18, in the opening 20 minutes and finished with a 50-44 advantage off the boards in the game.
Rutgers-Camden received eight first-half points from freshman guard
Tyree Mann-Barnes (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood), while senior guard
Jonathan Baker-Jernigan (Willingboro, NJ/BCIT-Medford) notched seven and senior guard/forward
John Tatem (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) added six.
Smith finished with 22 points for Roanoke, while Fitchett netted 21, Miller scored 18, Hassell notched 13 and Caldwell added 11. Smith also added a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Mann-Barnes led the Scarlet Raptors with 15 points, while Baker-Jernigan canned 13 and junior forward
Noah McFarlane (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) added 10.
McFarlane and freshman guard
Elijah Robles (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) tied for the team lead with six rebounds apiece. Robles also dished off three assists.
The Scarlet Raptors open their home schedule Friday when they host Rosemont College at 7 p.m.
