Box Score CAMDEN, N.J. (Jan. 16, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team has put together a nice run since mid-December, and that run continued here Saturday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
Senior guard/forward
Kamari Talley (Camden, NJ/Creative Arts) collected a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds as the Scarlet Raptors defeated Ramapo College, 49-44. It was the Raptors' third straight win and their seventh victory in the last eight games, hiking their record to 10-5 overall and 5-4 in the NJAC.
Ramapo falls to 4-12 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
Rutgers-Camden leads the all-time series, 34-21, and has won the last three matchups.
Saturday's game was tight most of the way, although Rutgers-Camden never surrendered the lead after tying the game at 2-2 and forging ahead, 4-2, on a layup by sophomore guard
Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic). That basket was part of an 11-1 run which helped Rutgers-Camden race to a 13-5 lead after one quarter.
Ramapo, however, cut the halftime margin to 19-16 as it out-scored Rutgers-Camden, 11-6, in the second quarter. The Roadrunners' surge was sparked by senior center
Grace Elliott (Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day School), who had eight points and five rebounds at the half.
Rutgers-Camden went on a 10-2 run to start the third quarter, aided by four points from Talley, to open up a 29-18 advantage midway through the frame. The Raptors led, 32-25, entering the fourth quarter before the Roadrunners made a big run. With 1:55 remaining, a three-point play by Elliott cut the Raptors' lead to 42-40 before Rutgers-Camden got some breathing room with a layup by sophomore forward/center
Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) and a pair of foul shots by freshman guard
Gabby Greene (Howell, NJ/Howell). Ramapo managed to cut its gap to 47-44 on a layup by Elliott in the final seconds, but a layup right before the buzzer by the Raptors' freshman guard
Ariel Robinson (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) accounted for the final score.
Talley's double-double was her 10th out of her 12 games this season. Obasi finished with eight points and six rebounds, while Racobaldo had eight rebounds, four points, a game-high five steals and tied Greene and Ramapo senior forward
Alyson Oostdyk (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) for game-high totals with five assists.
Raptor junior forward/center
Caroline Santiago (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) collected eight rebounds and seven points, helping Rutgers-Camden hold a 42-38 edge off the boards.
Elliott had a game-high 19 points for the Roadrunners, barely missing a double-double when she finished with nine rebounds. Junior forward
Bintou Berete (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) added seven points.
Both teams return to NJAC action with home games Wednesday. Ramapo plays William Paterson University at 5:30 p.m. Rutgers-Camden faces The College of New Jersey at 6 p.m.
