JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Dec. 3, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team didn't waste any time getting out of the blocks during its New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.
The Scarlet Raptors used a 16-point first-quarter run to take charge of the game early and went on to defeat host New Jersey City University, 87-59.
The victory lifts the Scarlet Raptors to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC. The Gothic Knights fall to 3-4 overall and 0- 3 in the conference. Rutgers-Camden has won four of its last five games against NJCU, including three straight, and holds a 35-24 lead in the all-time series.
Rutgers-Camden received a pair of double-doubles from junior guard/forward
Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) and sophomore guard
Gabby Greene (Howell, NJ/Howell). Racobaldo notched her first double-double of the year and fourth of her career, coming on the same court that she produced a triple-double last season on Jan. 13, 2016. Racobaldo finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while adding four steals, Greene had her first career double-double with a team-high 20 points and a career-high 11 assists.
After the Gothic Knights scored the first two points of the game, the Scarlet Raptors tied the contest on a pair of foul shots by freshman guard/forward
Kirsten Flournoy (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek). Racobaldo put the Raptors ahead for good with a layup and, after the Gothic Knights hit a foul shot to make it a 4-3 game, Rutgers-Camden rattled off the next 16 points. The big run started with back-to-back three-pointers by Greene and Flournoy. Junior center
Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) had six points in the run, Greene and Flournoy both had three and Racobaldo and freshman guard
Fatimah Williams (Camden, NJ/Timber Creek) both added two.
By the end of the first quarter, the Scarlet Raptors held a 28-7 lead, with six Raptors scoring between four and six points, led by Obasi's six. By halftime, Rutgers-Camden held a 47-21 advantage and had seven players in the scoring column, led by 11 from Racobaldo, eight from Obasi and seven from Greene. Racobaldo also had six rebounds and four steals in the opening 20 minutes, while Greene added seven first-half assists.
In addition to the double-doubles from Racobaldo and Greene, Obasi finished with 14 points, aided by 6-for-6 shooting from the floor, and seven rebounds. Flournoy came close to a double-double with nine points and eight boards, while Williams collected 10 points to give the Raptors four players in double figures offensively.

Ariel Robinson (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) added eight points and freshman guard
Kelsey Kruger (Sweetwater, NJ/Cedar Creek) notched six points.
Junior guard
Aaliyah Saud (Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) had a game-high 21 points for the Gothic Knights.
The Raptors shot 48.6 percent (36-for-74) from the floor and held a 47-38 advantage off the boards.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday with an 8 p.m. NJAC game at Stockton University.
