Raptors head to playoffs after Senior Night win over NJCU

CAMDEN, N.J. (Feb. 17, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team closed out the regular season and celebrated the career of guard/forward Kamari Talley (Camden, NJ/Creative Arts) here Wednesday night, but the Scarlet Raptors still have plenty of business ahead.

After Rutgers-Camden raced past New Jersey City University, 67-29, the Scarlet Raptors started gearing up for their first berth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs since the 2002-03 season, when they won the NJAC title. Rutgers-Camden will enter the playoffs as the No. 6 seed and travel to No. 3 Stockton University for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday.

The Scarlet Raptors improved to 15-9 overall and 10-8 in the NJAC, their most victories in both categories since that 2002-03 team finished 22-7 overall and 12-6 in the conference. The Raptors' 10 NJAC wins this season matches their total conference victories for the past four years combined.
 
NJCU, meanwhile, closes its season with a 1-23 record overall, an 0-18 mark in the NJAC and a 21-game losing streak.
 
Rutgers-Camden leads the all-time series, 34-24.
 
Rutgers-Camden scored the first 18 points of the game, including six of the first nine by Talley, and opened up a 20-2 lead after one quarter. By halftime, the Scarlet Raptors led, 29-9, with Talley collecting nine points and seven rebounds in the opening 20 minutes, while junior forward/center Caroline Santiago (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) had 12 boards and sophomore guard Alexis Sommers (Collingswood, NJ/Haddon Township) scored six points.
 
Talley finished with game-high totals of 25 points and 13 rebounds for her 19th double-double in 21 games this season. Somers added a career-high 11 points, including perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the field, and freshman guard Gabby Greene (Howell, NJ/Howell) added 10 points.
 
Santiago finished with 12 boards and five points, while sophomore forward/center Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) collected seven points, eight rebounds, two assist, two steals and a game-high three blocked shots.
 
Sophomore guard/forward Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) had team-high totals of three assists and three steals to go along with her four points and five rebounds.
 
NJCU received eight points apiece from freshman guard/forward Christine Bizub (Fort Lee, NJ/Fort Lee) and senior guard/forward Deseree Johnson (Red Bank, NJ/Monmouth Regional). Junior forward Ziyadah Williams (Jersey City, NJ/University Academy Charter) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
 
Rutgers-Camden shot 29-for-69 (42.0 percent) from the field and out-rebounded NJCU, 53-35. The Gothic Knights shot only 12-for-55 (21.8) for the game.
