Box Score CAMDEN, N.J. (Feb. 3, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden women raised their level of intensity, took care of the basketball and produced an inspired performance exactly when they needed it here Wednesday night.
As a result, the Scarlet Raptors toppled one of the hottest teams in the nation, handing Stockton University a 59-44 loss in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
The loss snapped the Ospreys' program-record 15-game winning streak, while the Scarlet Raptors broke their three-game skid. Rutgers-Camden improves to 12-8 overall and evens its record at 7-7 in the NJAC. Stockton, which received 25 votes toward this week's
D3hoops.com Top 25 to rank as the poll's No. 27 team, falls to 17-4 and 11-3 in conference play.
The victory also snapped Stockton's 26-game winning streak in the all-time series, dropping their all-time lead to 56-19. The Scarlet Raptors hadn't defeated the Ospreys since a 61-58 victory in an ECAC semifinal game on March 2, 2002.
The Scarlet Raptors had many strong performances against a team that had soared to within one game of first-place Rowan University in the conference standings before Wednesday night. Rutgers-Camden limited its turnovers to only 11, its third-lowest total of the season and the lowest since a season-low eight in the third game of the year.
The Raptors also were sparked by a huge inspirational performance from junior forward
Caroline Santiago (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional), who had missed practically all of the previous two games due to injuries. Santiago returned and produced her fourth double-double of the year with 13 points and her Raptor career high of 17 rebounds, which also was the game high.
Rutgers-Camden also received another double-double from senior guard/forward
Kamari Talley (Camden, NJ/Creative Arts). Talley notched her 15th double-double in 17 games this season, collecting 11 rebounds and a game-high 18 points. She also added four steals.

Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) and freshman
Gabby Greene (Howell, NJ/Howell), the Scarlet Raptors' young duo of ball-handling guards, meanwhile, only committed six turnovers between them while adding six assists apiece. Racobaldo also had 12 points, seven rebounds and a game-high five steals, while Greene chipped in with four points, two rebounds and one steal.
Sophomore forward
Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) added six points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals before being forced to sit with foul trouble. During that time, the Raptors got a huge lift from freshman guard
Ariel Robinson (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic), who scored six points and added four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Rutgers-Camden led throughout most of the first half, from 6-5 until Stockton's senior forward
Marina Lukianov (Howell, NJ/Howell) hit a game-tying three-pointer with 41 seconds left in the half, making it 25-25. Moments later, the Ospreys took the lead on a layup by freshman forward
April Peterson (Lafayette, NJ/High Point), giving Stockton a 27-25 advantage at the break.
The Scarlet Raptors quickly tied the game at 27-27 early in the third quarter on a jumper by Racobaldo. Moments later, a Talley jumper gave them the lead for good. They stretched the advantage to 43-35 by the end of the quarter and led by as many as 20 points (57-37) in the fourth quarter.
Rutgers-Camden held a 48-43 edge off the boards and forced 28 Stockton turnovers.
The Ospreys received 12 points from sophomore guard
Lea Mendolla (Nutley, NJ/Mount St. Dominic), while sophomore forward
Najha Treadwell (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) notched nine points and nine rebounds.
Sophomore forward
Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) had 12 rebounds and a dominating performance under the backboard with eight blocked shots.
Both teams return to NJAC action with 1 p.m. games Saturday. Rutgers-Camden visits Montclair State University, while Stockton hosts Ramapo College.
