Women’s Lacrosse Spoils Gwynedd Mercy’s Season Opener

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA – The Gwynedd Mercy Griffins hosted Rutgers-Camden on Thursday afternoon for their women's lacrosse season opener.  The Griffins were selected 5th overall in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Women's Preseason Poll.  The Scarlet Raptors beat the Griffins, 19-to-11.  
 
Senior Krystal Valianti had a game high five goals.  Valianti's five goals put her over the 100 career point total with 102 career points as a Scarlet Raptor. Cecilia Gross scored four goals, four ground balls, three caused turnovers and seven draw controls. Jessica Mayer had a career high five points (4 goals/ 1 assist). Mayer also notched five ground balls and two draw controls.
 
Nicole Martin scored three goals, an assist, and three caused turnovers. Breanna Heifet netted her first goal of the year. Heifet also had a career high seven draw controls. Natalie DiCarlo scored two goals, an assist, a ground ball and a caused turnover.

It's the first time the Scarlet Raptors have been over .500 since they were 5-4 on March 30, 2013 after beating Penn State-Abington. Rutgers-Camden (2-1, NJAC 0-0) will host Elizabethtown College (1-3) on Tuesday, March 15 at 6:00pm.
