Raptor lacrosse team falls in double overtime at Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. (April 23, 2022) – Freshman midfielder Kelly Griffin scored the game-winning goal with 1:43 remaining in the second overtime period as the Ramapo College women's lacrosse team edged Rutgers University-Camden, 13-12, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday.
 
Ramapo improves to 2-10 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 2-10 and 0-5.
 
The Scarlet Raptors were clinging to a 12-11 lead near the end of regulation when Griffin scored the tying goal with 2:28 remaining. Both teams had one shot in the first overtime and Ramapo had the only two shots of the second overtime.
 
Rutgers-Camden held an 8-6 lead at halftime and Ramapo tied the game at 9-9 after three quarters.
 
Griffin finished with five goals and one assist for six points for Ramapo, while sophomore Colleen Mason (four goals) and freshman Esme Espinosa (two goals, two assists) both had four points. Freshman defender Lauren Travaglini notched five draw controls.
 
Rutgers-Camden received four goals and one assist for five points from senior midfielder Claire Gailliout, who hiked her career goal total to 82. Freshman midfielder Ciara Butler notched three goals and one assist for four points, while sophomore midfielder Isabella Tamburrino collected three goals.
 
Senior midfielder Jazmin Torres notched two goals and added 10 draw controls, hiking her career total to 129. She moved into second place on the program's career list for draw controls, passing Cecilia Gross, who had 128 from 2014-16.
 
Raptor sophomore goalie G Bellon made 16 saves and had four caused turnovers.
 
Ramapo freshman keeper Alyssa Curto made 10 saves.
 
Rutgers-Camden closes its season Tuesday at 4 p.m. when it hosts nationally-ranked The College of New Jersey in another NJAC game. The Scarlet Raptors will celebrate Senior Day, honoring six players: Gailliout, Torres, Rachel Haigh, Jenna Jorgenson, Claire McKernan and Breeanna Stauss.
