Lycoming spoils Rutgers-Camden's lacrosse opener

WILLIAMSPORT, N.J. (March 5, 2016) – Senior Meghenn Jackson (Arnold, MD/Broadneck) collected six goals and one assist and a trio of Lycoming College players added three goals apiece to power the Warriors over Rutgers University-Camden, 17-7, in the Scarlet Raptors' season opener here Saturday.
 
Lycoming , coming off a 22-1 victory over Penn State-Abington in its opener Wednesday, raised its record to 2-0.
 
Senior Samantha Fox (Port Deposit, MD/Perryville) scored the first two goals of the game, helping to spark the Warriors to a 4-0 lead before junior midfielder Cecilia Gross (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) notched the Raptors' first goal of the season.
 
Lycoming followed with the next two goals on its way to a 9-5 halftime advantage.
 
In addition to Jackson's offensive outburst, Lycoming received three goals apiece from Fox, sophomore Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) and freshman Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, NJ/Randolph). Lazarich also added three assists.
 
Fox, meanwhile, pushed her career scoring output to 79 goals and 22 assists as she became the 16th player in Lycoming women's lacrosse program history to reach 100 career points.
 
Lycoming held a 36-17 advantage in shots.
 
Rutgers-Camden received two goals and one assist from Gross, while sophomore midfielder Nicole Martin (Delran, NJ/Delran) added two goals. Senior midfielder Krystal Valianti (Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood), senior midfielder Holy Cusick (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) and sophomore attack Natalie DiCarlo (Sicklerville, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) each added one goal for the Scarlet Raptors.
 
Cusick, Martin and junior goalie Alexa Rocks (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) led Rutgers-Camden with three ground balls apiece, while sophomore defender Megan Everett (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had a team-high two caused turnovers.
 
Rocks made 10 saves in goal for the Raptors.
 
Rutgers-Camden will travel to Rosemont, Pennsylvania, on Monday for a 7 p.m. non-conference game with Rosemont College.
