The split leaves Rutgers-Camden with a 17-17 record, while Ursinus stands at 14-18.
Rutgers-Camden returns to New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Ramapo College.
Ursinus 7, Rutgers-Camden 1
The Bears collected 14 hits in the opener, including a 4-for-4 performance by freshman centerfielder
Samantha Garritano (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts). Freshman leftfielder
Alexa DelMonte (Ewing, NJ/Notre Dame) added a 3-for-4 game.
Ursinus scored in every at bat except the second inning to support winning pitcher
Zoe Heinke (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg). The senior hurler raised her record to 5-6 with a four-hitter, allowing just a fourth-inning run, while striking out six. The Raptors' lone run came after senior centerfielder
Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was hit by a pitch and stole second. She scored on a double down the left field line by sophomore third baseman
Mackenzie Mason (Penns Grove, NJ/Penns Grove).
Mason went 2-for-3 with the one RBI to account for half of the Raptors' hits.
Junior
Abby Merryman (Washington Township, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) took the loss in a complete-game effort, walking three and striking out five. Merryman (4-5) allowed seven runs, six earned.
Rutgers-Camden 7, Ursinus 0
Dinsfriend turned the tables on the Bears in the nightcap. After allowing a pair of hits in the opening frame and wriggling out of trouble with a caught stealing and a double play, she didn't allow more than one hit in any inning the rest of the way in her collegiate pitching debut. She also helped her cause at the plate with a walk and a HBP, while collecting a putout in her lone defensive chance.
Rutgers-Camden scored the only run Dinsfriend needed in the second inning after Day was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Merryman, who played first base in the nightcap, had a bunt single to move Day to third. She scored on another wild pitch.
The Raptors broke open the game with a six-run fifth inning, sparked when Dinsfriend was hit by a pitch to open the frame. Freshman
Lauren Glaze (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) was inserted as a pinch-runner and advanced when junior leftfielder
Megan Goodspeed (Florence, NJ/Florence) reached on an error. Junior rightfielder
Jalene Garcia (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) loaded the bases with a single, setting up an RBI single by sophomore second baseman
Taylor Nichols (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights).
A wild pitch scored Goodspeed and senior shortstop
Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran) plated Garcia with another run on a sacrifice fly, while Nichols also scored on the play following an errant throw. The sacrifice fly produced the 101st of Larson's stellar career, tying her for third with Steph Skroski (2007-10) on the program's all-time list.
The inning continued when freshman third baseman
Charlee Greco (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) doubled and scored on a double by Day. Following a pitching chance, Merryman and Dinsfriend eventually drew walks, with Merryman scoring the final run of the frame on a wild pitch.
Merryman went 3-for-3 with one run scored in the nightcap. Nichols was 2-for-3 with a run and one RBI, while Garcia went 2-for-5 with one run scored.
