CAMDEN, N.J. (April 30, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden softball team celebrated Senior Day here Saturday and also reunited members of its 2006 national championship softball team for their 10th anniversary.
Whatever magic was in the air, the Scarlet Raptors' senior trio of pitcher
Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional), centerfielder
Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and shortstop
Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran) proved they weren't quite ready to end their careers.
Scott collected a pair of wins on the mound, Larson and Day were part of a three-home run offense and the Scarlet Raptors set a program record with a 12-run second inning in the nightcap as they swept New Jersey City University, 7-3 and 14-0 in a five-inning second game.
With the two victories, the Scarlet Raptors qualified for the fifth seed in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs. They will play a 4 p.m. game Tuesday at second-seeded Stockton University. The teams split a doubleheader during the regular season.

Katie Larson (24) gets a hero's welcome after her three-run home run
In the opening game, the Gothic Knights took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning on three hits before Rutgers-Camden exploded for five runs in the fifth. Freshman designated player
Dannie Dinsfriend (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) sparked the uprising with a one-out single. Following a walk to sophomore second baseman
Taylor Nichols (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights), junior rightfielder
Jalene Garcia (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) ripped an RBI double down the left field line, scoring junior pinch-runner/left fielder
Megan Goodspeed (Florence, NJ/Florence). Scott helped her own cause with an RBI single and was removed for pinch-runner
Lauren Glaze (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood). Larson followed with a three-run home run to left field, her fourth homer of the season.
The Raptors added their final two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Garcia and a sacrifice fly by Scott.
Scott hurled a six-hitter, walking two and striking out eight. She allowed three earned runs, while also helping her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Nichols went 2-for-2, while Dinsfriend and Garcia both went 2-for-3. Garcia had two RBIs and one run scored. Larson, who had the three RBIs on her home run, collected five RBIs in the doubleheader to vault into second place on the career list with 106 RBIs.
Rutgers-Camden 14, NJCU 0 (5 innings)
Jalene Garcia...6-for-7, five runs, three RBIs in twinbill
Rutgers-Camden put the second game out of reach early, scoring a program-record 12 runs in the second inning on 10 hits. The previous biggest inning by the Raptors was an 11-run third inning, also against NJCU, by the eventual national championship team in the first game of a doubleheader on April 25, 2006.
As she did in the first game, it was Dinsfriend who got the big uprising started, this time when she was hit by a pitch. Before the final out was recorded, the Raptors had sent 16 batters to the plate, and the first four batters in the lineup had two hits apiece. Garcia and Scott both had a pair of singles, Larson had two doubles and freshman third baseman
Charlee Greco (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) cranked a two-run home run and a two-run single. It was her second career home run. Scott added three RBIs in the frame, while Larson added two.
Day followed Greco's home run with a solo homer, her first of the season and the ninth of her career.
For the game, Garcia went 4-for-4 with four runs and one RBI, while Scott was 3-for-4 with one run and three RBIs. Greco went 2-for-2 with one run and four RBIs, Larson was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and Day went 1-for-2 with one run and two RBIs.
Scott (15-13) worked three innings of one-hit ball to get the victory, striking out one. Junior
Abby Merryman (Washington Township, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) worked two shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.
Overall in the doubleheader, Garcia went 6-for-7 with five runs and three RBIs to lead a 24-hit Rutgers-Camden attack. Scott went 5-for-7 with one run and five RBIs, while Larson was 3-for-7 with three runs, five RBIs and eight total bases.
