MONTCLAIR, N.J. (Sept. 24, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team struck early here Saturday night, but Montclair State University struck often as the Red Hawks posted a 3-1 victory in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.

The contest was a rematch between the two teams who played for the NJAC title last year, a game won by the Scarlet Raptors on penalty kicks after a scoreless tie.

The contest marked the second straight loss for the Scarlet Raptors after a six-game unbeaten streak to open the season. Rutgers-Camden falls to 4-2-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The Red Hawks, who received 27 votes toward the D3soccer.com Top 25 poll on Tuesday, improved to 8-2 overall and evened their NJAC mark at 1-1. They have been ranked as high as 14th nationally in the pre-season NSCAA Division III poll.

Rutgers-Camden had a fast start when junior midfielder Clayton Taylor (Mendham, NJ/West Morris-Mendham) headed home a corner kick by junior back Steve Karakitsios (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) at 16:33. It was Taylor's second goal of the season and the third assist for Karakitsios.

The Red Hawks tied the game at 3150 when senior forward Aaron Rose (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Damian Bziukiewicz (East Rutherford, NJ/Becton Regional). Bziukiewicz hit a cross from the right side that Rose tucked inside the right post.

Moments later, Rose assisted on a goal by Bziukiewicz, which was tapped inside the right of the net at 34:21.

The Red Hawks' final tally came on an own goal in the 64th minute.

Montclair State finished with a 20-10 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Rutgers-Camden sophomore goalie James Brett (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) finished with four saves, while the Red Hawks' sophomore keeper Mike Saalfrank (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) made eight stops.

Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action Wednesday when it hosts The College of New Jersey at 7 p.m.
