GALLOWAY, N.J. (Oct. 20, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team battled one of the top teams in the New Jersey Athletic Conference in several tight matches, but Stockton University ended up posting an 8-1 victory here Friday night.
Stockton improves to 3-1 in the NJAC and 8-2 overall. Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-3 and 3-6.
The Scarlet Raptors' lone win came from freshman
Jenna O'Lexy (Pitman, NJ/Pitman) at second singles. O'Lexy,
pictured above, posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory to raise her singles mark to 5-4 during her rookie season. She is 4-4 at second singles and 1-0 at first singles.
The Raptors lost a tough marathon match at third singles as sophomore
Danielle Lemma (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) dropped a 2-6, 6-3 (6-10) decision. At fifth singles, freshman
Abby Banner (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Cedar Creek) was edged, 5-7, 3-6.
Sophomore
Annalise Kipp (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford), who has played No. 1 singles throughout her young career, dropped a 0-6, 4-6 decision at the top spot. At fourth singles, freshman
Lexi Sample (Newfield, NJ/Delsea Regional) was defeated, 4-6, 0-6, and another Raptor freshman,
Anna Archut (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) dropped a 1-6, 2-6 match at sixth singles.
Kipp and Lemma pushed their Stockton counterparts to the limit at first doubles before falling, 8-9. At second doubles, O'Lexy and Archut were defeated, 1-8, and the Raptors lost, 4-8, at third singles with the team of Banner and Sample.
Rutgers-Camden closes out its season with two more weekend matches. The Raptors play at Kean University Saturday (1 p.m.) in a match which will decide fourth place in the NJAC standings. They host Penn State-Brandywine in a makeup match Sunday at 12 p.m.
