BRONX, N.Y. (Apr.23, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team closed out its 2017 season here Sunday with a 6-3 non-conference win over Lehman College.
The Scarlet Raptors, who finished the campaign with a 5-6 record, won their last two doubles matches and the last four singles matches.
Seniors
Anthony Gendin (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) and
Ryan Christopher (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) closed out their record-breaking weekend with an 8-4 victory at second doubles, one day after setting the program record for the most wins as doubles partners. Gendin and Christopher finished win 14 doubles victories as partners over the past two seasons.
The Scarlet Raptors also won at third doubles behind the duo of junior
Jake Collette-Nippins (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling)
and freshman
Khoa Ly (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West). They also posted an 8-4 victory.
At first doubles, the freshman team of
Jason Mehta (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) and
Jair Norman (Sicklerville, NJ/Williamstown) dropped an 8-1 decision.
Gendin (6-0, 6-2) and Christopher (7-5, 6-0), lost at first and second singles, but the Raptors swept the remainder of the singles matches. Norman posted a marathon 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 victory at third singles and Mehta won, 6-2, 6-2, at the fourth spot.
Collette-Nippins earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at fifth singles and Ly won a 6-1, 6-1 match in the sixth position.
Norman and Mehta both finished the season with 6-5 marks at third and fourth singles, respectively. Christopher and Gendin posted the Raptors' best doubles mark, going 9-2 on the season from the second spot.
