NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Apr. 8, 2017) – With the season winding along and postponed matches becoming more difficult to schedule, the Rutgers University-Camden and Albertus Magnus College men's tennis teams decided to play a pair of matches here Saturday as they both opened their Great Northeast Athletic Conference schedule.
Rutgers-Camden posted a 9-0 victory in both matches, with the first one counting toward the GNAC standings.
The double wins lift Rutgers-Camden to 3-4 on the season and 1-0 in the GNAC. Albertus Magnus falls to 1-5 and 0-1. The Raptors are now 3-1 all-time against Albertus Magnus since joining the GNAC in 2015.
The Scarlet Raptors host defending GNAC champion Ramapo College Saturday at 12 p.m. in another conference match.

While winning every match, the Scarlet Raptors got impressive 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at fifth and sixth singles from junior
Jake Collette-Nippins (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) and freshman
Khoa Ly (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), respectively. That duo also posted an 8-0 win at third doubles.
In the first two singles spots, seniors
Anthony Gendin (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) and
Ryan Christopher (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) notched wins with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively. They also teamed to win their match at second doubles, 8-1.
The first doubles team of freshmen
Jair Norman (Sicklerville, NJ/Williamstown) and
Jason Mehta (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) earned a 9-7 victory. Norman also won his match at third singles, 6-1, 6-0, while Mehta captured a 6-1, 6-3 victory at fourth singles.

In the non-conference second match, the teams played pro sets, with Collette-Nippins sweeping his match at fifth singles, 8-0, and teaming with Ly for an 8-0 victory at third doubles. Ly also won at sixth singles, 8-1.
Norman and Mehta posted an 8-4 win at first doubles, while Norman won his third singles match, 8-1, and Mehta posted an 8-4 victory at fourth singles.
In the top two singles spots, Gendin earned an 8-1 victory at first singles and Christopher captured an 8-2 win at second singles. They combined for an 8-0 win at second doubles.
Gendin and Christopher improved their record to 6-1 in doubles play this season, while Collette-Nippins and Ly are now 4-3 and Mehta and Norman are 3-4 at the top spot.
In singles play, Mehta owns a 5-2 record at fourth singles. Gendin, Norman and Ly all own 4-3 singles marks at the first, third and sixth spots, respectively. Christopher and Collette-Nippins improved their marks to 3-4 at second and fifth singles, respectively.
