CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 10, 2017) – Four Rutgers University-Camden freshmen collected their first collegiate tennis victories as the Scarlet Raptors swept past William Paterson University, 9-0, here Sunday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match.
The victory was the first of the season for the Scarlet Raptors, evening their record at 1-1 overall and in the NJAC. It was their first NJAC win since Sept. 5, 2015, when they edged Rutgers-Newark, 5-4.
William Paterson falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Freshmen
Jenna O'Lexy (Pitman, NJ/Pitman), Lexi Sample (Newfield/Delsea Regional), Abby Banner (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Cedar Creek) and
Anna Archut (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) all collected their first collegiate singles and doubles wins, joining sophomore co-captains
Annalise Kipp (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and
Danielle Lemma (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) in the NJAC sweep.
Kipp won at first singles (6-3, 6-2) and joined Lemma for an 8-3 win at first doubles. Lemma also added a 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles.
O'Lexy captured a 6-1, 6-1 victory at second singles and Archut won a 6-0, 6-0 victory at sixth singles, while they also teamed for an 8-1 victory at second doubles.
Sample won a 6-1, 6-2 decision at fourth singles and Banner captured a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at fifth doubles. They also combined to win at third doubles, 8-1.
William Paterson travels to Farmingdale State College Tuesday for a 5 p.m. non-conference match Tuesday. Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday when it hosts Ramapo in a 12 p.m. NJAC match.
