Camden, NJ (April 28, 2018) – In their final contest of the season, the Rutgers University-Camden women's lacrosse team honored their 7 departing seniors before they hosted the Roadrunners of Ramapo College in each team's last New Jersey Athletic Conference game of the year. Back and forth action saw both teams exchange goals and leads all afternoon, yet it was Ramapo who came out the victors by a final score of 16-11.
Rutgers-Camden jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal from junior midfielder
Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ, Camden Catholic), before Ramapo scored 4 straight. Both teams exchanged sets of goals twice, as
Racobaldo again scored on an assist from senior attack
Natalie DiCarlo (Sicklerville, NJ, Gloucester Catholic). Sophomore defender
Kacie Walton (Columbus, NJ, Northern Burlington) then ran the length of the field in a fantastic individual effort to score and cut the Ramapo lead to 5-3. After another Roadrunner goal, the Scarlet Raptors scored 4 straight, fueled by 2 goals from
Racobaldo, 1 from
Walton, and another by senior midfielder
Jessica Mayer (Cinnaminson, NJ, Cinnaminson). Senior midfielder
Sarah Boucot (Sicklerville, NJ, Paul VI) registered the assist on
Racobaldo's second tally in that span. Ramapo closed out the scoring of the first half by regaining the lead through 2 goals.
In the opening 14 minutes of the second half, the Roadrunners outscored Rutgers-Camden 4-2. The 2 Scarlet Raptor goals came from
Mayer. When Ramapo scored their 12
th goal of the game at the 16:16 mark, it was too much for Rutgers-Camden to overcome, as they added 2 more goals at the end of the half from senior midfielders
Nicole Martin (Delran, NJ, Delran) and
Nicole Curry (Maple Shade, NJ, Camden Catholic).
Racobaldo registered the assist on
Martin's goal at 6:57.
Senior defender
Megan Everett (Marlton, NJ, Cherokee) finished with a team-high 10 ground balls, just 1 shy of the game-high. Freshman goalkeeper
Brittany Watson (Millville, NJ, Millville) collected 8 ground balls while making 13 saves on the afternoon in the loss.
Everett also led in caused turnovers on the day with 6, while
Racobaldo contributed 5.
Boucot added 4, while also securing 4 draw controls.
The 7 graduating seniors all contributed great accolades across the program throughout their careers at Rutgers-Camden.
Boucot and
Everett are tied on the all-time games played list at 58.
Boucot (57) and
Everett (56) sit at 3
rd and 4
th, respectively, on the all-time games started list.
Martin finishes her career at 4
th in all-time goals with 87. She also sits tied for 2
nd in career assists with 36.
Martin is 3
rd in total points with 123.
Everett leads in two all-time defensive categories in ground balls (137) and caused turnovers (69).
Martin and
Boucot will retire on 2
nd and 3
rd on the caused turnovers leaders list with 67 and 66, respectively.
Martin also finishes 3
rd on the all-time draw controls list with 103.
Everett also tied a single-game record this afternoon versus Ramapo by collecting 6 caused turnovers.
