Raptors fall on the road in NY

Box Score

Purchase, NY (April 7, 2018) – On a long road trip to Purchase College this Saturday afternoon, the Rutgers University-Camden women's lacrosse team dropped a tough non-conference matchup versus the Panthers by a final score of 14-8. The Scarlet Raptors drop to 2-4 on the season, while Purchase stays unblemished at 7-0.

Despite opening the scoring just 1:22 into the game through an unassisted goal from senior attack Natalie DiCarlo (Sicklerville, NJ, Gloucester Catholic), Rutgers-Camden conceded 3 goals in a span of 10 minutes. The Scarlet Raptors battled back from their 3-1 deficit to regain the lead at 4-3, fueled by 2 more DiCarlo goals, as well as a tally by senior midfielder Jessica Mayer (Cinnaminson, NJ, Cinnaminson) at the 19:12 mark on an assist from senior midfielder Sarah Boucot (Sicklerville, NJ, Paul VI). DiCarlo would add her fourth of the game late in the first half, as the Panthers led at halftime 7-5.

Four goals by the Panthers in the opening 10 minutes of the second half put the game out of reach for the Raptors, as goals from senior midfielder Nicole Curry (Maple Shade, NJ, Camden Catholic), DiCarlo and Mayer rounded out the scoring in the second half. All of those goals came unassisted in the run of play.

Both teams were tied on the afternoon with 27 shots, as the Raptors led in ground balls 18-16. Purchase had the edge in draw controls at 12-8.

Mayer had a team-high 5 ground balls, while Curry added 4. Boucot led in draw controls with 4, and junior defender Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ, Camden Catholic) contributed 3.

Freshman goalkeeper Brittany Watson (Millville, NJ, Millville) picked up the loss in the cage for the Scarlet Raptors. She stopped 7 shots on the day.

Rutgers-Camden opens up New Jersey Athletic Conference play when they travel to nationally-ranked The College of New Jersey on Tuesday, April 10 for a 7pm start.
