EWING, N.J. (Sept. 1, 2019) – In the entire history of the New Jersey Athletic Conference, The College of New Jersey women's tennis team has never lost a NJAC match.
That streak continued here Sunday morning as the perennial NJAC champion Lions opened their season and conference schedule by sweeping past Rutgers University-Camden, 9-0. TCNJ's depth was on display later in the day when the Lions also swept Rutgers-Newark, 9-0, in a NJAC match.
The Scarlet Raptors, who fell to 0-2 overall and in the NJAC after facing the conference's top two pre-season picks over the weekend (they lost at Stockton University, 6-3, on Saturday), return to action on Sunday, Sept. 8, with a non-conference 1 p.m. match at Goucher College in Baltimore.
Against TCNJ, senior captain
Danielle Lemma had the closest matches against the Lions, losing at fifth singles (6-4, 6-0) and teaming with sophomore
Tiffany Trivers for a loss at first doubles (8-3). Trivers also lost her match at second singles by a 6-1, 6-0 score.
At second doubles, the Raptors' combination of senior
Aubrey Hawn and sophomore
LeAnne Hall dropped an 8-1 decision, while the pair of sophomore
Morgan Dempsey and freshman
Laurel DiStefano lost at third doubles, 8-0.
Hawn dropped an 6-0, 6-3 match at first singles and DiStefano lost a 6-1, 6-0 decision in the third singles spot. At fourth singles, Hall lost by a 6-1, 6-0 count and Dempsey was defeated at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
