Rutgers-Camden splits home volleyball tri-match

Kaliyah Moss...23 kills, 10 digs, six blocks and five aces in the tri-match
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 2, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team hosted its second tri-match of the season here Saturday and the Scarlet Raptors split a pair of matches against Marywood University and the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA).
 
The Scarlet Raptors swept Marywood, 3-0, with set scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-15. They lost a marathon five-set match against USMMA, 3-2, by scores of 25-23, 19-25, 25-19, 20-25 and 10-15.
 
In the middle match of the day, USMMA swept Marywood, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-20).
 
The split leaves Rutgers-Camden with a 10-5 record. Merchant Marine improves to 12-3, while Marywood falls to 7-11.
 
The Scarlet Raptors play host to New Jersey Athletic Conference action Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they battle New Jersey City University.

The Scarlet Raptors collected 37 kills against the Pacers, including eight by sophomore outside hitter Dyamond Free, seven by sophomore outside hitter/right side Erica Nebrich and six apiece from sophomore middle hitter/outside hitter Isabella Choice and sophomore middle blocker outside hitter Kaliyah Moss.
 
Senior setter Brinn Hassan had 17 assists, while senior setter Kayla Benesz added 12. Senior libero Morgan Fox let the team with 19 digs and six aces, while Choice had four blocks (three assisted and one solo).
 
USMMA 3, Rutgers-Camden 2
 
The Mariners rallied to win their sixth straight match, led by 22 kills from Paige Smith and 19 from Taylor Gilbertson.
 
Rutgers-Camden received 17 kills, nine digs and five blocks (one solo, four assisted) from Moss, who hit .469 for the match. Free added 11 kills, while Choice added eight kills and five assisted blocks.
 
Senior Devyn Cobb hit .462 with six kills, while Nebrich added six kills, six aces and four assisted blocks.
 
Hassan collected 27 assists to finish the day with 44, hiking her career total to 1,444. She is second on the program's career assist list.
