CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 5, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team captured its fourth win in its last five matches and evened its record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference as it swept past New Jersey City University, 3-0, here Tuesday night.
The Scarlet Raptors won by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-23 for their 14th consecutive victory over the Gothic Knights, dating back to the last NJCU win on Oct. 21, 2008.
The win lifts Rutgers-Camden to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the NJAC. NJCU falls to 10-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Rutgers-Camden led all the way in the first set after opening up an 11-3 lead. The Scarlet Raptors closed out that set with a service ace by sophomore
Isabella Choice.
In the second set, the Scarlet Raptors took the lead for good at 10-9 on a kill by senior
Devyn Cobb, assisted by senior
Brinn Hassan.
The final set was close all the way, with NJCU rallying from a 16-9 deficit to cut the gap to 21-20 and 24-23 late in the set. The Scarlet Raptors wrapped up their sweep with a kill by sophomore
Kaliyah Moss, assisted by Hassan.
Moss finished with another stellar performance, collecting 11 kills, seven blocks (three solo, four assisted) and six digs. Choice and sophomore
Dyamond Free both had seven kills, with Choice adding three service aces, while sophomore
Erica Nebrich notched six kills.
Hassan led the way with 29 assists and added nine digs, while senior
Morgan Fox led the Scarlet Raptors with 10 digs. Cobb contributed four assisted blocks for the Scarlet Raptors.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Thursday with a 7 p.m. non-conference game at Penn State-Brandywine.
