CAMDEN, N.J. (Dec. 20, 2021) – Rutgers University-Camden freshman guard Rahzirah Blocker (Clayton, NJ/Clayton) earned New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors after her first collegiate game in November, and the Scarlet Raptor star tacked on another conference honor Monday.
 
Blocker was named the NJAC Rookie of the Week this time around after she scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Scarlet Raptors past Bryn Athyn College, 67-60, on Tuesday. It was Rutgers-Camden's only contest of the week and was the second straight win for the Scarlet Raptors.
 
In addition to her 23 points, Blocker added five rebounds and a game-high four steals against Bryn Athyn. She also tied for team-high honors with three assists.
 
Blocker, who leads the Scarlet Raptors in scoring (17.8 points per game) and steals (20) this year, started her collegiate career with a 30-point performance against Penn State-Lehigh Valley in the season opener Nov. 7. That performance earned her NJAC Player of the Week honors on Nov. 8.
 
Blocker has appeared in nine of the Scarlet Raptors' 10 games this season, missing one contest with an injury. She has started all nine of her games. A junior academically who has freshman eligibility in basketball, Blocker previously attended Salem Community College, but wasn't able to play since the season was cancelled by the pandemic.
 
In addition to her two weekly NJAC honors, Blocker has been named Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week on three occasions, coming on Nov. 8, Nov. 29 and Dec. 20.
 
Blocker is a Computer Science major at Rutgers-Camden.
